Unveiling Nevada’s First-Ever Mobile Grocery Store

With the support of UnitedHealthcare Health Plan of Nevada Medicaid, The Just One Project’s Groceries on the Go program takes the next step in removing barriers to accessing fresh and nutritious food.

The Just One Project (TJOP) was born from a simple idea: to fight food insecurity throughout the Las Vegas community. The nonprofit started as a grassroots initiative over a decade ago. Today, it has evolved into a beacon of hope for many neighborhoods and families in need.

In January, TJOP unveiled Nevada’s first-ever mobile grocery store, which will travel around the city, offering nutritious and affordable groceries to residents living in food deserts where access to fresh, whole foods is severely limited.

Brooke Neubauer, TJOP’s chief executive officer, stood proudly beside the nonprofit’s latest innovation. “This is next level,” she exclaimed. “No more barriers.” Neubauer believes the mobile store will be a game-changer, offering fresh produce, dairy, proteins, and essential staples directly to those in need, right in their neighborhoods.

The success of this initiative was made possible through strong community collaborations. UnitedHealthcare Health Plan of Nevada Medicaid played a crucial role, providing much-needed resources to make the mobile grocery store a reality. “This is a huge milestone, and we feel privileged to be able to offer our support as part of UnitedHealthcare’s continuing mission to help people live healthier lives,” noted Joe Fu, chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare Health Plan of Nevada Medicaid.

The mobile grocery store offers amenities one would expect at a full-service store. Set inside a school bus donated by the Clark County School District, the interior has been completely renovated to include refrigeration and storage. As the mobile grocery store visits various communities, it offers more than just food. It provides hope and a sense of dignity. Latonya Miller, a local resident and advocate for the community in need, shared her excitement: “It’s a great experience, and we need it.”

Driven by the needs of the communities it serves, The Just One Project’s vision is clear: to eliminate food deserts and ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food.
