Elevating the “Food is Medicine” Initiative

Our mission at The Just One Project has always been about more than simply providing food – it’s about creating a healthier, stronger community by addressing the root causes of hunger and promoting overall well-being. With our essential belief that “Food is Medicine,” we are not just feeding people; we are nourishing them in a way that directly impacts their health and quality of life.

But we are not alone in this mission. Across Southern Nevada, other dedicated organizations are also embracing the “Food is Medicine” philosophy, ensuring that our community has access to nutritious food that supports good health. Together, we are forming a powerful network of support that reaches those who need it most.

Three Square: A Leader in Nutrition-Focused Hunger Relief

As Southern Nevada’s largest food bank, Three Square has long been a leader in the fight against hunger. Their efforts to distribute fresh produce and healthy meals to underserved communities align perfectly with the goals of the ‘Food is Medicine’ initiative. By focusing on the nutritional needs of the people they serve, Three Square helps combat chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, which are often exacerbated by food insecurity. Their collaborations with local agencies, including The Just One Project, further expand access to nutritious food and strengthen our collective impact on community health.

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada: Nourishing the Body and Soul

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada also plays a critical role in promoting health through their Hands of Hope Community Food Pantry. This program provides fresh produce and other nutritious food items to individuals and families in need, ensuring they have the resources to lead healthier lives. Their Meals on Wheels service delivers balanced, nutritious meals directly to homebound seniors, many of whom rely on this program to meet their daily nutritional needs. By focusing on nutrition, Catholic Charities is helping to prevent and manage the chronic health conditions that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations.

The Just One Project: At the Forefront of Health and Wellness

At The Just One Project, we are proud to stand alongside these incredible organizations as we all work to elevate the health of our community through the “Food is Medicine” initiative. Our Pop-Up & Give Mobile Markets bring healthy food directly to the neighborhoods that need it most, offering a selection of items carefully chosen to support the dietary needs of those with chronic illnesses. Meanwhile, our Food Rescue Program ensures that surplus food from local businesses is not wasted but instead used to fill the nutritional gaps in the diets of our community members.

We believe that food is not just a basic need – it’s a powerful tool for promoting health and preventing disease. By partnering with local agencies, educating our community, and collaborating with organizations like Three Square and Catholic Charities, we are transforming the way food assistance is delivered in Southern Nevada.

The Just One Project is committed to building a healthier, more resilient community, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Together with our partners, we are proving that food truly is medicine, and that by nourishing our neighbors, we can create a brighter, healthier future for all.
