How The Just One Project and SilverSummit Healthplan Helped One Man Find a New Home
At The Just One Project, we are committed to creating pathways for individuals and families to rebuild their lives. Our partnership with SilverSummit Healthplan focuses on combating food insecurity and promoting health education across Southern Nevada. Together, we’ve developed impactful initiatives such as Community Health Fairs and Pop-Up Farmers Markets, bringing vital resources directly to the community.
While The Just One Project’s partnership with SilverSummit Healthplan primarily focuses on food access and health education, this connection often opens doors to additional services. In this case, a SilverSummit member was able to connect with The Just One Project’s housing assistance program, where they received the support needed to apply for and secure stable housing.
A Story of Resilience and New Beginnings
On November 25th, 2024, TJOP’s Social Services Manager, Roberta Valdez, connected with a SilverSummit Healthplan member in need of move-in assistance. After months of experiencing homelessness, he shared his excitement about turning a new page. Eight years sober and determined to continue improving his life, he was ready for the next step: securing a safe and stable home.
Roberta walked alongside him through the process. Despite not being tech-savvy, he was eager to move forward, and with patience and guidance, they quickly tackled the required documentation and phone assessments. To his joy and relief, he was approved for move-in assistance on the spot.
Just a week later, on December 2nd, the payment to his leasing office was finalized, officially paving the way for him to move into his new home. Overwhelmed with gratitude, he reached out to TJOP, expressing how life-changing Roberta’s support had been during this process.
The Power of Partnership
The success of this story is a testament to the power of collaboration. Through The Just One Project’s Community Connect program and SilverSummit Healthplan’s ongoing partnership, individuals like this man receive more than just assistance—they receive hope, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
Roberta Valdez, Social Services Manager at TJOP, reflects on this journey:
“This story is a powerful reminder of the resilience and determination people carry, even in the face of adversity. It’s an honor to play a role in helping others rebuild their lives and embrace new beginnings.”
Client Testimonial
In his own words, the client shared:
“Going into the housing assistance program, I felt overwhelmed. Once I connected with Roberta, it was as if she held my hand and walked me through it… Through the holidays, mind you! No rest for the weary has never been truer. I am the beneficiary of Roberta’s hard work and persistence. To the lucky ones assigned to her caseload, congratulations. You are in good hands. And blessed.”
